RESEARCH FUNDING

·      Quebec Heart Foundation

    From 1973 to 1991, more than $ 250,000 has been awarded for various projects on blood compatible materials used in cardiovascular surgery.

    Collaborators: Drs. J. Awad, C. Gosselin, A. Cardou, M.W. King, and R.E. Prud’homme.

·      Quebec Health Research Council

    A non-renewable grant of $ 12,000 obtained in 1975-1977 for studies on blood compatible materials.

·      Medical Research Council of Canada

    Since 1977, approximately $ 4,000,000 has been awarded for several research projects related to blood conduits and blood compatibility of foreign surfaces.

    From 1981 to 1988, several grants have been obtained for different studies pertaining to arterial prostheses (more than $ 400,000) and cardiac valves (more than $ 500,000)

    Since 1990, several contracts have been obtained in collaboration with Oculo-Plastik, St. Jude, Pramel and Pharma-Mag; for a sum totalling $ 36,000.

·      Research funding from Laval University

    Laval University has been involved in the biomaterials program since 1973 and until the mid 80’s contributed approximately $ 150,000.

·      St. Fran?ois d'Assise Hospital (specifically Pavillon St. Fran?ois d’Assise, CHUQ, since December 1996)

    Since 1976, St. Fran?ois d'Assise Hospital has also contributed to the many biomaterial projects in terms of salaries and supplies either directly or through FRSQ funding. In addition, 11 millions dollars were granted in 1993 to build the Quebec Biomaterials Institute Inc. and acquire major scientific equipment (ESCA, MRI, FTIR, etc.).
